BUSINESS CHIEFS URGED: OPEN YOUR EYES
TO THE DARK AND SEE THE LIGHT
UK business chiefs are being urged to open their eyes and see the light afforded by the Dark Continent.
“Financial investment alone in Africa isn’t good enough. It’s the investment in its people and long-term solutions that will ensure sustainable changes and development in Africa”.
RegenAfrica is the UK’s first ever regeneration and development initiative aimed at targeting key political and business leaders and decision-makers across Africa and Europe. Its vision is to promote sustainable economies in Africa.
RegenAfrica Chief Executive, Emmanuel Matthews, said: “If Make Poverty History is the message and Live8 is the voice, RegenAfrica is the BUSINESS. Our exhibition and conference will be one of the most important African trade events ever staged in London. RegenAfrica’s aim, building on Bob Geldof’s similar but short-term strategy, is to regenerate Africa through building sustainable growth in infrastructure, human wealth and through effective leadership and governance. RegenAfrica has both medium and long-term visions. “Investments in people combined with the rule of law, economic freedom and above all domestic leadership, in support of sound policies, will assist Africa’s regeneration process and improve standards of living for millions of the continents’ poor people” Answers are needed today but RegenAfrica aims to reduce aid dependency through the development of effective in-country solutions made for Africans with the support of Africans and the know how of the rest of the world.
The three day RegenAfrica event takes place at the Barbican on October 20-22 and includes a three-day business exhibition targeting national and international businesses across Europe, the USA and Africa, a one-day conference on the 21st focusing on economic and political leadership in Africa, a celebration of Black History Month on the 22nd and a African business leaders network dinner. The event will also see the launch of RegenAfrica Magazine, the first of its kind focusing on investment in socio-economic regeneration and development opportunities in Africa.
Mr Matthews added: “The exhibition is aimed at promoting Africa as a regeneration, trade and investment destination for the world and will also create the best platform for African and international governments, corporations, businesses and individuals with an interest in the African continent to come together to forge commercial links for the future.
“As an African who experiences Africa at first hand, during my formative years, and been able to embrace Western management, leadership and business practices I and my fellow Africans want to give something back to those who supported our growth and invest in the Africans of tomorrow.”
“The conference and business dinner will create an environment where collaboration between governments, Africa’s international development partners, business and other stakeholders can help propel Africa to self-sustaining growth and development which will make aid less necessary.
“This event will present an unparalleled opportunity to help foster more rapid progress in African countries by tackling the economic and political leadership issues pertinent to Africa in the 21st century.”
